First digit: contact/foreign body protection

Code 0 = no protection

Second digit: protection from water

Code 0 = no protection

Code 1:
Protection against the entry of solid foreign bodies with a diameter of greater than 50 mm.

Code 1:
Protection against dripping water which falls vertically..

Code 2:
Protection against the entry of solid foreign bodies with a diameter of greater than 12 mm.

Code 2:
Protection against water falling at an angle of up to 15° (dripping water).
